Easy Buttermilk Biscuit Recipe

Buttermilk biscuits are one of those ubiquitous cooking terms that people seem to hear and shy away from, believing that they are too difficult to master or too time-consuming to bother with.

Today I'm going to walk you through just how quickly and easily you can put together your own batch of buttermilk biscuits and have them ready for any occasion. Check out my YouTube video below, or read along for the recipe!

You'll Need:

Self-Rising Flour - 3 Cups
Buttermilk - 1.5 Cups
Butter - 6 Tablespoons

Getting Started

Preheat your oven to 375 Degrees.

Sift your Self-Rising Flour into your mixing bowl.

With a cheese grater, grate the 6 tablespoons of butter into your flour. It's important to keep your butter extra cold, so if it starts to warm up, set it into the fridge and try again in a few minutes.

With your dough hook attachment on your stand mixer, or mixing by hand, slowly incorporate the shredded butter into the flour. Once incorporated, slowly pour your buttermilk into the flour mixture to until the dough just comes together. Place the dough in the refrigerator while you prepare your work surface.

Lightly flour your counter or wood cutting board and begin flattening and folding the biscuit dough over itself. Continue flattening and folding until you feel the dough start to give a little pushback. This process creates the layered effect that people desire in biscuits.

Lightly grease a glass baking pan and use biscuit cutters to cut your biscuits, folding and molding the remaining dough as needed.

Bake for 20 minutes at 375, then remove the biscuits from the over. Lightly brush on melted butter or margarine, and increase the heat to 400 degrees.

Bake until the tops are golden brown and enjoy.

You can even freeze your cut biscuits and save them for another day, just make sure that they have about an hour to defrost before baking them!

Enjoy!
